The story about the serial a Girl Sargam marries into the Choudhry family where a girl child is abhorred. All the women in the household are made to undergo an ultra-sonography to ensure that the sex of their unborn baby is male. What happens when Sargam finds out that the baby in her womb is a female?

Balraj (Dharmendra), affectionately called Raj, by his elder brother (Nana Palsikar) and sister Vija (Madhumati), is a student in college in the arts semester. As the family is not very rich, Raj decides to move from the hostel to the residence of a family. He finds one such family in Gandhinagar, which consists of Choudhury Hukumat Rai (Ashok Kumar), a lawyer by profession, his wife (Nimmi), and only daughter Shanti (Mala Sinha). Hukumat takes an instant liking to Raj, and tells him that his wife will only allow him to take up residence if he tells her that he is already married. Raj reluctantly does so, and thus acquires residence with the Rai family. Eventually Mrs. Rai takes a liking to Raj, so does Shanti. Shanti finds out Raj and her dad had lied to the family about Raj's marital status, she confronts Raj, and he readily admits that he lied.

A poor man with a large family struggles to make ends meet. His troubles are compounded when his daughter injures her foot which needs to be amputated. Desperate, he decides to abandon her.

Shankar lives a poor lifestyle in Bombay along with his pregnant wife, Maya, five sons and a daughter, Radha. He works in a mill, earning a mere Rs.137 per month. Radha has injured her foot and needs treatment but before that Maya gives birth to their 7th child, a son, Chotu. Their childless neighbors, Ranu and Sunderlal, want to adopt Chotu, but Maya refuses. Then when Shankar takes Radha to the nearest Government Hospital for free treatment, he is told to admit her as her condition is serious, which is does. Hoping that Radha will come home soon, he is horrified when he is subsequently told that Radha's foot may have to be amputated. Fearing the worst, he decides to abandon Radha, and tells his family that Radha has passed away. Watch what impact this news has on Maya, the rest of his sons, and on Radha herself.

A newly married woman begins to sleepwalk, and her husband suspects she is inadvertently connecting with a lover from a past life.

Sleepwalker Sita Raichand (Waheeda Rehman) is rescued by Ram (Manoj Kumar) while walking on a railway track. Shortly thereafter Guruji (David) and Mr. Raichand (Balraj Sahni), approach Ram's mom (Lalita Pawar) with a marriage proposal. Finding the proposal suitable both Ram and his mom agree, and as a result Ram and Sita are married.
